I use a scroll saw when I need to cut detailed shapes in wood or acrylic. Harbor Frieght's website doesn't list the saw I bought from them. I paid about $40 and I love it. For cutting acrylic or other plastics it is best to have a saw with a variable speed. Slower blade speed reduces the heat and the plastic doesn't melt as badly. One cool feature of the scroll saw is that you can drill a hole in the center of a piece, thread the blade through the hole and make an inside cut without having to come in from the edge. I linked the pic below to a site that has additional info on the scroll saw. |
